There was glitz and glamour everywhere on Saturday 18th September at the Revelstoke
Hotel, Bridlington at the final of Yorkshire Coast’s Got Talent.
Following eight weeks of heats to find the cream of the crop of
local musical talent 15 acts came together to impress a panel of
top judges in an attempt to take home the £1,000 prize.
Judges were entertainer Billy Pearce, West End Musical Director
Alex Weatherhill and The Spa general manager Andrew Aldis.
And they had a difficult task as all the acts put on a top-notch
performance to wow the judges.
The energy in the room as the contestants arrived along with their
supporters was amazing. The room was filled to capacity with about
350 people. The doors opened at 7pm and there was a huge queue waiting.
The show started at 8.15pm and the atmosphere was amazing.
The eventual winner was chosen as 21-year-old Bridlington based
singer/songwriter Leanne Burton.
Leanne performed her own song Where Does the Time Go, while accompanying
herself on the guitar.
Leanne took home the £1,000 first prized which was kindly
donated by Adrian Vodden of the Revelstoke Hotel.
Second was Chantelle Maltby, 20, from Bridlington, who played keyboard
and sang Empire State of Mind by Alicia Keys.
Third Place went to Stephanie Hick, also 20, who sang her rendition
of Lady Gaga’s Bad Romance.
The whole event was produced and compared by Keely Barugh who was
not envious of the judge’s job on the night. Keely invited
Billy Pearce to the stage to speak on behalf of the three judges
and he provided everyone with an idea of just how difficult the
judging had been, and how close the completion was. Billy went on
to say “to all of the contestants that they should use the
night as a platform to gain performing experience and to strive
forward and never give up.
The evening was also honoured with civic guests. We were thrilled
to have guests of honour for the evening in the form of Mayor Shelagh
Finlay and her husband and Consort Mike. Deputy Mayor and Deputy
Mayoress Shaun and Jacqueline Marsburg also attended.
Over the nine weeks the event raised a massive £3,500 for
the trust and Adrian Vodden of the Revelstoke hotel presented a
cheque for all the money raised at the end of the evening.
Julie and Micky would like to thank again everyone who took part
in the shows, everyone who came to support the competitors, Keely
Barugh for all her hard work with the planning and producing of
the shows and Adrian Vodden for asking Katie Walker Cancer Trust
to be part of the event.
A special thank you also goes to Richard “Wraggy” Wragg
for all his support over the nine weeks. Not only did Wraggy judge
at some of the heats, but when he wasn’t judging he acted
as a “bouncer” for us.
Finally a huge congratulations to Leanne our well-deserved winner.
DUE TO THE SUCCESS OF THIS YEARS EVENT YORKSHIRE COASTS
GOT TALENT WILL TAKE PLACE NEXT YEAR.
